Good Morning Fitbit!

 

There are fitness trackers and then there ARE fitness trackers. Lately I’ve had the pleasure of being greeted by someone other than my family every morning. “Hello Barbara, what’s up?” A smile comes across my face as my cool Fitbit one tracker greets me and provides that extra motivation I may need to get started on my healthy living routine. Yes, we all have them. After all I am human, and there are days (more than I care to admit ) when I need that extra umph to get me going.

The Fitbit one is the coolest fitness gadget I’ve come across in a long time. Basically its a wireless tracker that not only tracks your physical activity while you are up and on the go,  but also your sleep activity while you are resting. Ever wonder why your so tired after a full nights sleep? Well maybe its because you didn’t get enough actual rest, and spent most of the night tossing and turning. The Fitbit one monitors your sleep and will even wake you with a silent alarm.

All you have to do is clip it on during the day and adjust it to a wrist band at night before you go to bed. Its bluetooth capability will work its magic and wirelessly sync all your daily activity to your smartphone (iPhone & Android apps) and/or PC/MAC. Got to LOVE LOVE LOVE Wireless technology! :)

You can earn badges for reaching milestones, set goals, log meals, view progress such as calories burned vs. calories consumed, and share & compete with friends. There is so much you can do on the free Fitbit website and app! I assure you, you will fall in love with your new “friend” :)

Now what’s your excuse to not move? Whether its walking or running make healthy living a way of life! :)

My Road to Nov. 4…16 weeks to go!

Marathon training is in full gear! OMG 16 weeks to Nov. 4 What have I gotten myself into!!

My Heart Journey to Marathon Day!

The countdown to Nov. 4 has begun!! My 20 week training is underway and I am psyched!! Well sord of :)  Training for a marathon takes a lot of dedication and is quite time consuming as well.  More the reason why I am so proud to be running, not only for my own “bucket list” accomplishment, but for a cause that is so very important to me and very close to my heart.

A Fun & Fit Vacation!

Ever go on vacation and pack on the pounds? Why is it necessary to forget about your fitness routine the minute you land at your vacation destination? Recently I went away with the family. While enjoying ourselves to the fullest I couldn’t help myself from doing what I often do…..people watch. Ok, we were on a cruise and yes cruises have the reputation for providing food 24/7 but why is it necessary to overindulge?

I made it a point to have fun while sticking to my health & fitness schedule. Maybe a glass of wine or two over the norm was consumed (after all it was vacation) however a daily workout was done.

Whether it was running on deck (awesome) or bike riding with the kids at port, some form of physical activity was completed. Although the food was amazing and everything from fried fish to French fries was offered, so were grilled fish and veggies. I opted to stay away from the fried goods and stick to the fresh. I chose to indulge in the amazing deserts offered at dinner with a spoonful taste and opted for balance once again. It can be done and why not? Give it a try…have some fit fun next time you land at your vacation destination :)

I am a Perriconista!! :)

For some time now I’ve been using Dr. Perricone products. I started with the Citrus Facial Wash and have moved onto several other products.

I got hooked when I saw an interview with him abut 7 yrs ago when he spoke about the value of eating the right foods so that it will reflect in your skin. Salmon, berries, cantaloupe, kale, green tea, sweet potato, all the yummies I am constantly talking about.

I am certain that much of my “glow” be it inner or outer comes from what I eat & the products I use.  Just as food and exercise work together and being fit will fail without the right diet, so will your skin/outer beauty. Healthy IS the ultimate standard of beauty……believe it.

My Butt is Big aka “…Barbara por Atras”

Back in 2005  Nike ran an add “My Butt is Big” which I thought was very cool & totally spoke to me,  especially since I always thought my butt was big. Truth be told it still speaks to me! :)

Last year in August 2011 the same ad hit with a different “butt”  that of a full length beautiful athletic woman.

Although Weiden & Kennedy the Ad agency for Nike does not take credit for the new ad it has still brought much attention to Nike and the original….Much buzz which brings interest with hope for sales & ca’ching $$.  Got me to proudly where my Nike sneakers & apparel :)

Now for my question? Which do you prefer, the original or the doctored one? Either way its the message that I love, and that is all Nike….so again, Thank you Nike.  More agencies/companies should take note because after all its about being healthy big butt or not :)

    Touchdown Guacamole

    For your enjoyment this Superbowl Sunday or any Sunday for that matter :)

    My Yummy Guacamole: Enjoy with chips, whole grain crackers, sliced peppers, celery sticks, whole grain pita…think outside the box!

    • 3 Ripe Haas Avocado peeled and mashed
    • one garlic crushed ( cheat with me and buy jarred minced garlic)
    • 1 diced tomato
    • 1 med chopped red onion
    • 1/2 cup chopped cilantro
    • 1 tbs lime juice
    • 1 tbs chopped jalapeno ~ again cheat w/jarred :)
    • salt & pepper to taste

    Mix all together & serve! Let me tell you a secret….keep the seed of the avocado in the mixture to avoid browning! Enjoy! :)

    PS. Fun Fact:  Football fans are anticipated to consume an estimated 71.4 million pounds of Hass avocados during Superbowl gatherings this year, according to the Hass Avocado Board…Crazy number!
