Summer…..Summer……Summer…..

Its here! Summer season is upon us. The weather is warm, the sky is blue, the sun is shining, I have an awful cold :( Yup, its true but I am stopping at nothing! I will enjoy myself this weekend! Baseball tournament and poolside grilling is the plan. To get you started on all the possible healthy indulging, I am going to share a couple of  my fav healthy grilling recipes that will not destroy all the hard work you’ve done throughout the year. Its important to have fun and stay on track. Feel confident and beautiful. There is nothing worse than seeing everyone enjoy all the great yummy’s provided during summer parties because of fear that your going to put the weight back on. This is terrible for the psychy and simply awful for the overall health of your mind and body. If you hold yourself back from eating something you truly want the inevitable will happen. You will find yourself binging and attacking the fridge late at night or when no one is watching. The best thing to do is prepare healthy dishes that you can truly enjoy, or if you are at a party that is not figure friendly  use portion control. Don’t eat the whole burger, cut it in half and load on the veggies or salad.  If all fails and the party your at has nothing but ribs and chips, stick to the protein only, and when the time is right,  politely have a matter of fact conversation with the host/hostess and talk about all the great alternatives to healthy grilling. Remember no one likes a reformed preacher, so tread lightly :) Utilize the woman’s best trait of reverse psychology :) Now, get ready to enjoy two of my fav recipes courtesy of Women’s Health Magazine :)

Turkey Gorgonzola Burger~ my mouth is watering already! Que Rico :)

  • 1 lb lean ground turkey
  • 3 oz. Gorgonzola cheese, chopped
  • 1/2 cup sun dried tomatoes, drained & chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tsp cumin powder
  • 2 tsp vegetable oil
  • 6 100% Whole Grain buns
  • 6 tsp barbecue sauce
  • shredded cabbage

1. Preheat grill to medium. Combine first five ingredients with salt & pepper to taste in a bowl. Lightly mix together and form 6 patties. Brush them with oil.

2. Grill burgers for 4 to 5 minutes on each side or until the internal temp. is 165 degrees F. Toast buns and serve. Garnish with barbecue sauce and cabbage.

Simple, delish, and so good for you!  REMEMBER barbecue sauce could be loaded with sodium and carbs. Make sure you read the labels when searching for the perfect one to add to your dish. You don’t want to ruin it with the sauce. Which is why I have provided a healthy barbecue sauce for your enjoyment :) No grilling is complete without barbecue sauce!

Barbecue Sauce

  • 2 tsp veggie oil
  • 1/2 med red onion, diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 Tbsp tomato paste

A fact that is so important in many aspects of life. This is also very  true when it comes to your workout.  For some time now I’ve been preaching that even 10 minutes a day is better than no minutes a day. With just 10 minutes you can improve your health, stay healthy, and best of all make you happy :) Consistency is the key to everything you do, even in the gym. I am a huge advocate of implementing spurts of workouts throughout the day, simply because that is my lifestyle and it works for me. There are days when I can’t give 30 to 60 minutes at a time in the gym as some experts suggest is necessary. This is just not always realistic for us always on the go. So waking up 10 minutes earlier and hitting the floor with planks, push-ups, & Yoga. Keeping my medicine ball in the kitchen so I can work with it while prepping meals for the family. Using my cans of Goya, 2lb bottles of Honey, or gallons of Milk for more than just eating :) Doing lunges while waiting for the bus with the kids, and running/playing with my dog. Those are ALL ways of staying active and I assure you will keep you fit & healthy.

Yes, the more you workout the better, but it’ll do nothing for you if you start full steam ahead and then quit due to  fatigue and exhaustion. Slow & steady does win the race and in order to stay in the race you have to gradually work your way to the level of consistency. Stay in the game, not burn out! Most recently my mom FINALLY listened! :) She hasn’t been taking care of herself. Thank goodness, she came down with a stomach virus and she listened to her body. Funny how the body speaks to us, sad how many of us don’t listen :(  Yes, her body spoke to her and it scared her so much so that today she is, slowly but consistently, implementing physical activity into her life, & she has changed her diet ~Oatmeal every morning and NO coffee!! Woo Hoo Mami!! :)  Every morning she uses the first steps of her stairs for step ups. She started with 12 and has worked up to 20 reps. She takes a break and goes back in the afternoon for more. Bottom line she is moving more as we all should! We need to bring activity into our lives and allow it to be a part of life, a lifestyle. You won’t have to “diet” if you eat right & healthy everyday, and you won’t have to stress over that bathing suit or outfit if you’ve implemented activity in your every day life. Repeat…..its a Lifestyle not an over night quick fix! AND all it takes is 10 minutes a day to get you going! :)

Have a Great Day! Buen Dia! Get Moving & Make it a Great One! :)

Tune Up for The Bod!

That’s what I call it when I need a little enhancer to maintain my exterior :) and since my Bday is approaching I decided to start last Sunday with an overdue facial! :) Yes ladies, and men, its important that we take care of our outside as well as our insides. Although, the benefits of eating well reflects on your physique as well as hair and skin, a little tune up is nice and helps the mind in loads. Nothing like relaxing during a facial, message, mani, pedi, hair appointment etc. Unfortunately for us multi-tasking mom’s we often neglect this so important ritual. Not good! We need to take care of ourselves in order to be on top of our game….the extremely important game called LIFE! :) I know it gets pricey and many of us are on a budget so that is why their are ways we can get a “tune up” at home too. I recently re-discovered my forgotten buddy Honey Bear :) Honey Bear was hiding in the back of my pantry and noticed that when I wanted to add some to a nice hot cup of tea (I’m an occasional tea drinker). Truth is honey isn’t good just for tea, its fantastic as a moisturizer too! I suffer from extreme dryness on my hands and when coco butter alone wasn’t doing the trick I added a few drops of honey to my moisturizer and like magic my skin was soft and fab! A single ingredient, pure & natural resource that is great for cooking, as a cold remedy, natural sweetener, throat soother, skin & hair moisturizer, and for us health & fitness lovers a GREAT pre workout energy booster! AND it has one of the longest shelf lives for food products out there! One may think its gone bad when it crystallized but it has not. Just place the bottle in a pot of warming water and it’ll return back to its natural state. So honey, if you don’t have some at home be sure to pick yourself up a cute Honey Bear during your next trip to the market. And if you want to watch a great family movie that will shed a whole new light to honey watch one of my family’s fav’s Bee Movie. Got to love Barry Benson! :)

Have a Wonderful Weekend! Feliz fin de Semana! Get moving & Eat smart!  Dale! :)
